blocking a hatthought I don't block anything.. I have just knitted a hat, and thought it might be a good idea.. but I dont have one of those wooden hat stand thingies.. so ... how can I block it? on what?

Balloon, bowl, stuff it with poly bags until it's the right shape?
I block my bowls on whatever piece of tupperwear fits them, or failing that stuff them with poly bags

What shape is the hat? Some you can just wash lightly, scrunch in a towel to get the worst of the damp out then put it on your head for a little while. Otherwise anything that supports the shape will do, I've used demijohns, flowerpots and baskets before now in addition the the ideas already suggested
