Bolting TurnipsI have a problem in that my Turnips keep bolting - they did the same last year too. It's not for lack of water and it hasn't exactly been hot. They are WHite Globe variety.
Anyone know the reason why? Is it just the variety?

Was it the same variety last year?

Its usually stress at some point that makes thing bolt, lack of water, poor soil prep, if you grow things in the same place too many times lack of certain minerals wont help either. And this can go right back to not enough water when they are in a seed tray or pot growing on.

Just found something that says:
Turnip is basically a cool climate crop, resistant to frost and mild freezes. Grown as a spring or fall crop throughout the United States. Temperatures below 10°C cause bolting.

That could be it, we had quite a cold spring. Same type last year too - next year I will try something different.

I've never had any broblems with Purple Top Milan or Tokyo Cross, maybe you should plant a little later too.
