This and the following book are a true insight into how inner strength and desperation can be used to survive when all seems against you.

ACADEMIC STYLE ..SOCIAL HISTORY

1: FAREWELL to the WORKING CLASS bY ANDRE GORZ

An essay on post-industrial Socialism (Pluto Press first published in 1982)

This book is interesting to those who are either studying or interested in how Industrial change has refaced out world.

I actually won this book for a thesis I had written on the subject, so will have to remove the certificate from the inner front page (for sentimental reasons) but the removal will not damage the book itself.

It does everyone good to look at some of these books and remember how we shape our own destiny as human beings, probably without even realising we are doing it.

Farewell to the Working Class is a provocative, heretical book which attempts to make sense of radical politics in the 1980's and was one of my own choices to receive as an award choice.

(Maybe another Gorz should be writing a sequence to this one for todays political changes!!) Laughing

Paperback 8" x 6" approx weight 180 grms approx

What is the title of the book you are reading now JS? Just to make sure you dont get the same again!

Not going to the meet I'm afraid, but PM your details and I'll put book in post for you. Just bung something in the air ambulance or Lifeboats box when you get a chance.

BUT post me what titles you have already read from the series.

I'm curious.........
Sarah D

Shocked I have recieved a couple of these as part of a swap - they are the most beautiful lamps I have seen in a long, long time. I love them. They would make good earrings also.............. Wink Laughing
hedgehogpie

Laughing Sorry sarah, you had me shrieking with laughter there! Earrings that big would have Bette Lynch cowering in shame Laughing Laughing

And for the curious, here's what they looked like:

Hmmm.... Dimensions? I'd guess the shells are about 4" long, and the drop is around 8" or so. You could knock yourself out running for a bus with 'em.

(But I do make 'baby' oystershell earrings and necklaces when I have the right materials to hand) Wink
marigold

OOOH! Lovely things hedgehogpie Very Happy
hedgehogpie

Thanks! Very Happy
hedgewitch

wow hedgehogpie, they're lovely Very Happy
hedgehogpie

I've just got hold of some lovely big scallop shells - I have a feeling they'll make gorgeous wall sconces.

Will post some pics for your opinions when I've done one. Smile

(by the way, these are all made entirely from found objects, so even the copper wire was 'foraged')
