Brand new bra for grabsBought a rather slinky navy blue heavy lace underwired bra from ebay, but its definately not the size it says in the label, I reckon this is a shapely 38B not the size its pretending to be. I only paid £2 for it with postage, but there isnt a hope in hell of me squeezing into it without disasterous and possibly comic consequences. Would it fit anyone here? Just want a stamped addressed envelope to pop it into

I have to say sall with the few RL pictures of you I have seen I am surprised you such a large chest size and small cup size but then I guess photography can be misleading!

definately a larger cup size! I can never quite decide whether I'm a C or D, bras seem very variable these days,I do seem to have a big ribcage too, though again, I shift around (though I can probably blame Gareths cooking for that particular measurement!)- I think this bra must have been mislabled at manufacture.
Sharonb- its yours! Will pm you back now.

getting fitted for a new one seems equally variable. But trying to get sense out of the woman wielding the tape measure in Marks (who is supposed to know what she's doing!) is quite a feat. I asked for fitting advice last time I was in there, taking in a couple of sizes to try (an A and a B) and she went off and came back with an AA that was so obviously too small!
I would really like to be measured properly! Others rave about Bravissimo's fitting service but since they only start at a D I think, I'd be embarassed to walk in the shop!

If you are not sure I would strong recommend going somewhere like bravissimo or a proper ligerie shop and getting properly measured as a couple of years a go I did that and when from a 38C to a 34G/FF and my bras fit me so much better now then they ever did before

most towns have a proper lingerie shop which will offer proper fitting service based far more in reality than M+S

I think you are right, its just finding somewhere and getting round to it! Will add it to my to do list, I've had too many bras recently that just havent worked well in practice, I've even tried looking up all the instructions online but they never give a sensible measurement

the impression I get from when I have been mesarured is they look at the size of your back and the size of the breasts and give a measurement
if you use the formula and try on to start with anything which falls on the cupsize up, chest size down scale, ie if you measure 38 C try 36 D, 34 E, 32 F etc then once you have narrowed it down move around that size range
another thing which is important is which style of bra works I know I can't wear balcony bras as I have what the fitter called a protuding rib which means the wires can really dig in if I am not careful even on a properly fitted bra

I've had good fittings at local lingerie shops and bravissimo (I do remember a B cup... maybe around the same time I started secondary school??!!)
I have heard from a few people that work in the lingerie trade that M&S is particularly bad --- they use charts to train people, which isn't the same as getting to know how women can be different shapes, and also move staff around so frequently they don;t allow them the time to develop expertise in fitting bras. This was born out when I shopped there a couple of years ago.
I have a very narrow back for my..erm.. front/cup size so i'm particularly at the mercy of people who don't know what they're doing and work to formulas.. they try and cram me into some tiny cup size as my overall measurement is small to them, despite the fact that i am obviously very front-loaded
