Broken old horn - advice soughtOur oldest Soay ewe who is ten has had a flaking bit half way up her horn for a while. Two weeks back when we wormed them all, there was a bit of scrum in the holding pen, and she had blood coming out from the weak spot on the horn, but it soon stopped.
This morning we found she has lost the top half of her horn. The red fleshy inner core is sticking out by maybe a centimetre. It isn't bleeding, she is grazing and seems unconcerned.
We are bothered by infection setting in, or her bashing it on something.
What should we do?
Will it heal over?
Is there a cement we could paint over it like repairing teeth?
Should we put a plaster cast over it?
Take her up the vet for them to fix it or cut it off entirely?

Personally if she is showing no concern I would leave it be with just a spray with purple to keep infection out.
She will probably knock the protruding bit off in a few days & as long as you keep the spray going me thinks all will be well.

Not sure about sheep but going off what the cows are like with theirs I'd think given the weather's cool so there won't be flies around it'll be OK - she won't be using it as it'll be sensitive so she won't be rubbing dirt into it. I'd just keep an eye on it and if it does seem to be getting infected or worse, get the vet then.
