We're very lucky in having an existing building that needs rebuilding.

I'd like a folly and a cabin, space available just need a firm idea now. Very Happy
mochyn

I've always wanted a folly.

Instead I've got the old chap.
sean

If you built a cabin and then mounted it on a pole so that you couldn't get into it then it would fulfill both roles.

Assuming it's heated and cosy, it'd be fab to wander around starkas and look out at the winter landscape Wink

It's inspired me. We've been thinking for years about rebuilding the feed store. Yesterday I did a sketch of the new one, showed it to the old chap and he likes it. I'm adamant the it will be built from recycled - reclaimed materials where possible and environmentally friendly stuff for the rest, with solar panels on the roof (so it's off-grid) and solar water heating for the sink which I'll need. Also a small wood burner. There will be a small 'deck' outside with canvas shades for the front wall which will be mainly glazed doors. Inside there will be workshop space downstairs with a sitting area and one or two sleeping lofts.

Woohoo! As soon as all the other stuff is done we'll be starting. That gives me time to accumulate materials. It's even more exciting than the wash house! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Right: who's got some double glazed doors they no longer need?
Nick

Hereford freecycle, yesterday. Gone now, but I assume you're looking there anyway. Chez

I've got some windows. marigold

I've got some windows.

I speed-read that as "widows" and my mind boggled for a moment Laughing .

I got a stiff neck, caused by sleeping next to an open French widow...

We are replacing our double glazing this year. We have a glazed door but not sure if more parts are with it or they got lobbed. More windows to change yet including x3 velux if you want them mochyn... mochyn

I'll have a word with the old chap... Thanks a lot, though! vegplot

As impressive as most of those buildings are, some of the settings are truly mesmerising.
I'd be happy waking up in a leaky tent if the views where that good!!

Problem most of us face here in the UK is even if we make them non permanent, sustainable & sympathetic to the environment some nosy neighbour is sure to cause trouble & add to expense.
A neighbour of mine has just spent the week digging back the bank on the roadside of his property & building a low stone wall which IMO looks better, & stops his garden slowly slipping & encroaching on the road.
Some vindictive git has complained to planning & he's had a visit from officialdom.
The planning officer had no problem with his construction, but said he had to follow up any complaint.
Seems some people aren't happy unless they are making trouble for others.

Someone near here built a perfectly acceptable stable (nice timber construction. look OK in the landscape). A person from quite a distance away but who could see it from their land complained and the chap had to take it all down. Had he gone for PP he would have got it: he's applied properly now and it seems to be going through. I will be checking that we can do what we want before we do anything, even tohugh I know our only neighbour wouldn't complain whatever we did!

On a similar note, a friend wanted to build a hay storage barn, when he enquired with the Council he was advised to apply for PP (even though it was not necessary), objections came from as far as 40 miles away, from a relative of a neighbour who didn't object!

Don't let Tahir or VP see this thread. We'd have to move it into the Naughty Corner. Blacksheep
