calfy goodnesshere's some herefords I've got designs on:
the bull
and heifer
and here's a lil holstein bull for good measure
and here's a bird's nest i found whilst uncovering the compost bin - i think i got to the bottom of why one of my bushes died - the birds have been stripping the bark for their nests! thankfully this nest was empty.

Ahhhh. The calves are cute. We have a Songthrush nesting right outside the back door, right at head height. There was lots of cheeping coming from there today....

We had another calf last night - about 2 am.

not sure, I would be fine with a red one. In fact, if we got a horned red one I would be tepted to oxenate it.
what breed VSS? I meant to ask you the other day - what were/are your BBXB&Ws like at calving?

On the whole they calve pretty well, particularly the BB jersey X. This particular cow is a BB freisian X and she is pretty beefy, but a really good milker too, although her lactation is quite short. The calf is by a lim bull, and was overdue and a bull calf to boot. Not a difficult calving, just a bit tight.

On the mend I think. She can get up now (alot of encouragement and massaging yesterday!) but still rather doddery and one back leg still kuckled under, but I think she will be OK
