If you did not request this message. DO NOT click the link, it will remove your forum email and disable your forum account instantly.
Let's say that again as we get complaints from people who click the link!
DO NOT CLICK THE LINK unless you want to wipe out your account on the forum, there are no second chances here! DO NOT CLICK unless you want your account zapped!

Reverse psychology - tell them to click it and then explain what will happen.

Not a mensa forum then? The only thing I could suggest is to highlight using BOLD and capitalise the "Do NOT". Failing that I think its best they are not allowed to post

How about starting with
IMPORTANT: Do you wish to delete your account?
This link will remove your account permanently. Read on only if you wish to delete everything.
Maybe finish with two links
Return to normality (or whatever text works)
Delete my account
so they have a clear choice?

Clicking this will remove all your data (porn & illegal film's / music games) from your pc.
Clicking this will give you an STD & stop you ever having sex again.
Remove the link?
Replace with a random image confirmation do dah with plenty of warnings.
Then if they still do it dont worry about it. Then when they email to get it fixed refuse. People have become so used to things being "undelete-able" that they dont understand the concept of gone for ever.

Surely if they're that thick, any forum would be better off without them?

If it isn't totally impossible to get it back you have:
DO NOT click the link, it will remove your forum email and disable your forum account instantly. To get it back will cost at least £1,000.
Why can you only have one chance though. Can't you send at least two messages, I think I get at least two to unsubscribe from yahoo groups. Couldn't you get them to send an email with "Please delete me" in the title or something?

They have to go through the hoops to get the email sent in the first place, the email is to confirm that it is their account to delete. So at that stage I don't particularly want even more hassle for them.

In that case I don't see any reason to change the wording - your original post makes it clear enough for anyone but the most stupid, and they are clearly so very stupid that they shouldn't be on the internet anyway.
You could warn them that if they do press the button by mistake, they'll incur a massive admit charge. A tax on stupidity is always a good idea.
