Can anything be done with dog waste?

Is there anything at all that can be one with dog waste instead of building a poo mountain, throwing some over the neighbours hedge or putting it in council provided public bins?

Is there any way to compost it, get gas from it or anything else?

The subject has been discussed previously.

Ok, I read through the thread and have decided to compost the canine waste with some normal compost and then use it in the orchard around the trees and just generally spread around the orchard when the poo has boke down enough not to be a nuisance when walking. Very Happy

dog waste

why not just put it down the manhole cover into the sewer

it's where yours goes...........

what's a sewer for?

The dog poo from my pack is usually burnt on the bonfire, after I've mucked out the chickens and the horse. Dog poo on top, so it all gets burnt. Ashes then go onto the veg patch.

Does it smell when you burn it?

we used to have a dog loo for our dogs waste. It was alright to start with, you put in the waste and then added chemicals which broke it down but after a while it clogged up and we ended up with a large buried bucket of ****.
Wouldn't even consider doing that nowadays but at the time we had 2 little'uns and needed drastic action.

YES!!!
We have stables within a couple of hundred yards on three sides of us, and two out of the three burn their excess poo. It stinks! Not quite as badly as the plastic feed sacks that one of the horse owners burns at the same time ( Twisted Evil ), but badly enough to have to bring the washing in.
But this does mean that I have access to an almost unlimited supply of horse manure for my garden, so I just stick a peg on my nose for the afternoon and grumble to myself about the washing.

Man from water board bristles at unauthorised use of manhole covers and access to sewers thereof.

My father has a dog loo and the trick is it's built into a soakaway in a discrete & closed off corner of the garden and to "flush" it regularly (ie: pour in a bucket of water) and reapply the chemicals. Now, I'm not sure what the chemicals are, what the resultant outflow to soakaway is like (chemically/toxically) or how this measures up to downsizer theory & practice...

Prior to having the dog loo we used to dig a 2' deep 1' square pit and bung in the dog mess until 1/2 to 3/4 full and fill back in with soil - dig next pit... etc. After three or four years we'd be back to the location of the first pit... kinda landfill rotation approach. Needs lots of suitable spots for said pits & a strong stomach.

I also have memories of using the "down-stairs" (odd concept in a bungalow) loo too...

We had ours buried into a soak away my OH dug and filled with gravel. However it probably had more to do with old woofers diet,as she could only eat dried dog food and was a big dog ,so her waste did not seem to degrade very quickly.
My kids made up a newsletter once in which they mentioned Poo Mountain (our garden, post dog loo days) in an effort to get OH to clear it up (he didnt! Neither would he take her for a walk Crying or Very sad ).
We no longer have a dog for obvious reasons.

white bone rich material was called" best "by glove leather tanners but the darker stuff also had a price.. .in a bacterial compost it will break down .

a sewer is a sewer surely and cannot distuinguish between a human or canine war canoe... Rolling Eyes
