Caught short hen?One of our hens - and I think I know which one, is laying her eggs in random places in the garden. Not tucked into cosy nest places but - at the bottom of the steps, in the middle of the lawn. The others lay quite happily in the nest box and she has occasionally. She isn't picked on particularly. It's not a big problem - just wondered why and if there was any way to encourage her to lay in the nest box.

She's just a slut Ruby Other than confining her , I can't think that there's anything to be done . ( I just love this emoticon )

Yep - my sort of hen really Funny thing is - the dogs guard the egg for me rather than rushing out to eat it - although my own dog hasn't realised yet that if she cracks the shell it's edible

Yes - that could be it as well - but more love I think as she adores the cockerel and hates to leave his side.
Slut - I know
