Ceps are backEven with the lack of rain I had quite a good day on Monday. Got almost 1kg of Ceps and the rest (half a kilo) mainly Saffron milk caps. I found a ring of these with over 30 mushrooms - never seen so many in one spot!
Cep 1
Thirsty Cep
Another Cep
And another
Mole-hill Cep
The last beauty above was interesting. It was fruiting right in the middle of a mole-hill. I would have thought that the mole would have damaged the mycelium and pulling the mushroom showed that the mycelium was free in the soil - as if it had grown after the mole had been there - odd.
Saffron Milk Caps
Also quite a number of Oyster mushrooms and Beefsteak fungus on the trees. And then I found this....
There was loads of it on an old beech tree. It's a Hericium, possibly Hericium erinaceus.

Great photos Pete. Have not bothered to go looking recently because it is so dry.

Thanks, JP. The Hericium (I'm now sure it's Hericium erinaceus) now looks like this:

I'm going back to my island of last week tomorrow. The weather forcast is for (another) day of 40 mm rain and 20m/sec of wind. This time I'll bring a change of clothing
Last week I found kilos upon kilos of the nicest mushrooms. I'll take a basket just in case, but common sense tells me to forgo the pleasure and rather stay dry.
Anybody out there who has some kind words to spare for a drowning mushroom hunter?
