Channel 4 to be censured over controversial climate film

Quote:
Channel 4 misrepresented some of the world's leading climate scientists in a controversial documentary that claimed global warming was a conspiracy and a fraud, the UK's media regulator will rule next week.

Intersting:

Quote:
After the broadcast, Wunsch said the programme was "masquerading as a science documentary when it should be regarded as a political polemic" and was "as close to pure propaganda as anything since world war two".

He claimed he had been duped into appearing and his comments had been misleadingly edited.

The Ofcom ruling is expected to find that Wunsch was misled about the tone and content of the programme, but that his views were accurately represented within it.

It is foolish and wrong for proponents of the CO2 warming hypothesis to treat their word as sacrosanct, to brook no argument and to become shrill when questioned. One of the reasons people dislike the EU and the Labour party is the insistence of its leaders that notihing they ever do could ever be even partially wrong - that ought to be a warning for climate scientists.

They haven't been censured for presenting evidence to suggest that global warming isn't happening; had they done so that would have been perfectly acceptable. They have been censured because they and Martin Durkin have misrepresented the evidence that is available, editted comments from people to change their meaning and attributed comments to people who never said them.

What is stupid is that Channel 4 have been censured for airing a documentary that has been found to misrepesent the facts and the opinions of the people it interviewed on the subject of global warming. The consequence is that they have had their knuckles rapped for doing so. What is astoundingly stupid is that Channel 4 in 1997 were censured by the independent television commission for airing a documentary "Against Nature" which attacked environmentalists; the complaints were upheld because "the programmes breached the Programme Code in respect of the failure to make the four interviewees adequately aware of the nature of the programmes, and the way their contributions were edited.". Who made that programme? Martin Durkin, the same director who was responsible for GGWS.

It could have been any subject and regardless of whether one thinks global warming exists or not C4 abused their position of a public broadcaster by seriously misrepresenting data and opinions.

It is accepted the media bend things to make a story or present the views of programme makers but in this instance C4 stepped well over the mark.
