Cheap SSD driveshttp://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1561742/intel-release-cheap-ssd
£70 for a 40gb drive would be excellent for on the road devices SSDs are much more robust than hard drives.

£70 for 40gb?
How about £95 for 64?

Notably my Ubuntu 9.10 install takes about 2.5gb and that has firefox, openoffice and an email client.
Neither 40gb or 64gb are going to store your DVD collection, but either is more than adequate for "non media" use.

Cern does need a lot of storage, they also have the money for custom hardware though which makes it easier for them
