Cherries and chocolate cookiesJust picked a little less than half a basket of cherries. First of the year, plenty more to come
On the way back, it seemed rude to check out the cherry tree in front of Bagpuss's house (they're not ready yet) without offering her some, hence my foraging cycle ride netted me a handfull less cherries, but two fresh out of the oven chocolate cookies.
Its a hard life.

I was eyeing up the cherry tree near us earlier - not ready, but a few starting to turn - I'll be racing the blackbirds soon.

I never said I'd beat them They get the ones at the top of the tree, and I get the sorry few I can reach. And even then they've often been pecked.

A keen eye and good local knowledge. Know where the local cherry trees are, which ones ripen first, and keep an eye out for when they're just turning. Then go in and get them before the birds.

Sadly the rain has ruined most of our cherries this year - still plenty for the birds though as they don't mind the condition.
