Chicken help please

Dear Downsizers, please forgive me as I have not been around and haven't posted for months, then I turn up with a request for help!

One of our school chickens had blood running down her beak - it looks like a scratch/cut/peck to the front of her comb.

I've put her in a separate run for now, so that the others don't make it worse.

What else should I do? does it need cleaning? etc

I woult segregate as it could make the bullying worse when you put her back. They just have to get on with it and sort out the "pecking order".

Give it a clean, get some anticeptic spray ( Purple stuff you get from the type of places that sell the food ) and then put it back in the run. they will have to sort out the pecking order at some point so might as well let them get on with it and just keep an eye on them.

Can you put her back in and see whether the others are worrying at her? If they aren't, I'd do what Lloyd says, so long as it's not actually bleeding any more; she may have just bumped it rather than it being a pecking thing. The issue is if the others start worrying at it. If you've got some purple spray you could put that on it if it's still bleeding.

spray with purple spray - they colour will disguise the blood whilst disinfecting at the same time.
Chickens see black, white & red - purple appears black to them and they will not peck.

I didn't know that! You could have little chicken-fighting games, with teeny-tiny red cloaks and chicken-Matadors with tight trousers.
Lorrainelovesplants

you obviously have far too much time on your hands........
go and bake a cake or something. Laughing

I might make some bread. I have parsnip and coconut soup coming for tea; Arvo swapped a tray of eggs for it with a neighbour! ros

Thank you Smile

we just found two of the others heading off towards the rugby pitch and therefore found the hole in the fence - I think that must be how she hurt herself rather than pecking

It's stopped bleeding now, so purple spray and put her back

thank you Smile

I now have a fantastic mental image of chickens playing rugby Rolling Eyes Laughing chez

Waving little red cloaks and wearing tight trousers? ros

I have missed you all and your sense of humour, thread tangenting

All 6 chickens were still in their run and looking healthy and bloody-nose free this morning

School chickens?
If they cannot see colours, how do they know which school's uniform they are wearing?

doesn't matter; most students look like they get dressed in the dark anyhow
