chicken worriesI have 5 chickens and I am worried about one of them. They have all had lice recently so they've been powdered but I'm still concerned about this one . If I write down the things I've noticed maybe somebody will have an idea of what to do:
1. She is still infested with lice despite being smothered in powder twice and the base of her feathers has a thick build up of eggs - do these drop off if the lice are dead ? If not how do you get them off?
2. Compared to the other hens she is very thin and her crop looks a bit sharp.
3. Her droppings are a bit "loose" and a yellowy/green colour.
4. (Don't laugh) I think she looks a bit depressed.
Despite this she is eating and drinking normally and doesn't seem to be bottom of the pecking order. She doesn't get picked on. I'm half tempted to just get shot of her incase she infects the others with something but I don't want to do that if it's something quite simple to sort out.
Any help appreciated.

What type/make of louse powder did you use and have the hens been wormed recently?

It was louse powder with citriodiol . I got it from my local animal supplies shop. Also yes - I thought it might be worms so I went to the vet who gave me something to put in their water for 3 days. The trouble with this though is how do you know if they've drunk enough of it?

I use a wormer that gets added to feed which means you can watch the hens eat it. It's Flubenvet and if the hens are living on the same ground it can also be used to treat the ground otherwise the hens can reinfect themselves from the ground.
Luckily my hens have never had louses so I don't know much about them, can anyone else help?

I've not had that sort of level of infestation - my problems are usually mite-related.
I would imagine that the delousing powder would not affect the eggs, however - you would need to apply it again to kill off the new generation that hatches out.
How is the chook now?

For some reason lice and the like always seem to thrive and almost pick on anything that's slightly under the weather.
I had some Northern Mite on my chickens one year and plastered them with Gold Top Louse powder. They loved the stuff and really revelled in it. I swear I once caught hem holding their own winter olympics in it with their own giant slalom , the lot.
Change the stuff you are using and in the case of your poorly bird go for something thats going to give you virtually instant success.
I've sung the praises of it on here before but if you can lay your hands on an aerosol spray called MITEKILL or MITEASE then its going to be goodnight Vienna for the lice in minutes.
As a stop gap but effective measure I've even used wasp spray to good effect on the crawlies.
The two that I've mentioned earlier have a persistant effect. If you have any trouble getting them, then PM me and I'll price it up for you and get some in the post.

Thank you for all your ideas.
Little chicken and all the others are lice free, have had a double dose of wormer just to make sure and today I have had my first 2 eggs. My boiled egg and soldiers was the best ever tonight
