just listened to an interesting 'On Your farm' R4 report about Mark Diacono who's planting new varieties of fruit and nuts on his Devon farm.

aaah - hadn't picked up the forthcoming book/ River Cottage connection from the programme.

Forthcoming book? He's had one on veg growing out already. He's the admin of the RC forum, I met him at the nut course at www.agroforestry.co.uk

Yes he talks about his pecan trees in the programme- I noticed they were in the Agroforestry catalogue. Did you plant any?

were you listening to the radio at sunrise too?

I like early Sunday R4, the churchbells and country life - it all starts to go a bit downhill when the choirs start up, then just when you've really had enough aaaaaah lovely David Attenborough tells you all about the mating positions of ammonites, bless Very Happy

Yep I've got pecans, the types that'll grow here are quite small, just bigger than a cobnut, so I've only planted 6, but 90 heartnuts which look great.

Just have to ask - 90 heartnuts and all the chestnuts - how much land have you got?
Is it all wooded, or to be wooded, or is this boundary planting?

Decent sized bit of land but no hills!

58 acres on a S facing slope, have planted around 30 acres of it as orchard so far
