Coloured varnish question

Does anyone know if B&Q or anyone else for that matter stock coloured varnish? It's for some toy storage for Ben's room and he'd like it to be blue and red. I'd rather use varnish than paint for this, but our local hardware store doesn't have any.

ikea sell coloured varnish I think if that helps. Wilkinson's might if you've one of them near you.

Some Big B&Q's do, most don't. Surely the range of colours will be more limited than with paint and paint is easy to varnish over either with normal or even quicker spray varnish?

But if you use coloured varnish you can still see the grain. And I don't need lots of colours, just red and blue.

All clear now!

you could allways apply a emulsion based wash then a clear varnish for protection. that way you've got endless colour, shades to pick from
same go's for oil /water based pigments in scumbles , glazes etc .

i have had great results from a cheapo oil paints added to clear varnish.....play around...don't be restrained by someone elses idea off colour.

I have used coloured wood-stain, (Colron) and then varnished over the top, gave a good finish.
