connecting to the National Grid

I'm not sure if anyone here has any experience of this, but..
Has anyone every had a new build or plot connected to national grid?
How much did it cost and what complications did you have?

Yep, just recently, and the installation cost was about 5.5k + VAT for the transformer & 100m of cabling (we had to do the groundworks between the pole & meter box, which was all on our property- and have the route approved by the distribution company [YEDL] that it wasn't going to be built upon etc. in case they need to dig it up.)

Then we had to appoint an energy supplier, and we went for Good Energy because they supply only renewables & were cheaper than NPower (if you choose Good Energy, PM me & I'll send you a code to get £20 off your first bill).

There were a few more problems connecting up because when the chap who came to install the meter (via Good Energy) turned up our supply wasn't live- so then we had to contact the distribution company who came out immediately & diagnosed that the transformer was faulty. They were going to replace it that evening but a neighbour complained about having the supply turned off without notice so it had to be re-arranged for the following week. All that was done free of charge.

Fantastic thanks for that.

Oddly enough I too was looking at GoodEnergy, but that due to their good buy back price on electricity.

If you were needing a transformer you would be getting your power from a MV (medium Voltage) or 11k line. So it might be cheaper if there was a normal LV (240v) line near by. But then again there is more likely going to be extra costs in digging up a puplic foot path.

Thanks Again
