Consistently broken eggs

Have 9 chucks which are currently yielding 4/5 eggs of which at least 2 end up broken every day due to fragile shells (very thin but not necessarily soft), does anyone have an explanation and hopefully a solution?, don't know if it is the same chucks each time!

Many thanks[/u]

Heavy egg layers use a heck of a lot of calcium to make the eggs shell. I suggest you provide some oyster shell for them to help them replenish their stocks.

If oyster shell doesn't help, it might just be that they are getting on a bit.

I gently dry the used eggshells in the oven then grind them in a mortar and pestle to gritty dust, then mix it with their layers pellets to put the calcium back in, leading to strong shells.

Oyster shells added to layers pellets..ignored!, they are happy to eat egg shells, and only 3 years old!, not sure that they're moulting (plenty of feather but nice bare bums!), I didn't think 3 years was that old?

For a hard working laying chicken three years is pretty old.

Ok, many thanks
