crushing clay

Has anyone got any good ideas on how to prepare clay for a clay plaster? We can get clay by the lorry load, free except for a few beers for the driver, but it is slightly stone and has hard clay lumps in it. Last year we did all the clay plaster for this house by rubbing it by hand through a coarse grid made from an old bar-b-que, but I could really do with a better solution. We have a cement mixer if that helps?

You really need a roller pan mixer to crush the clay and make it workable. You may be able to hire one like this. You'd be welcome to borrow mine, but Bulgaria's a long way!
