Great pics.....what kit do you use? Birds can be really difficult to capture.

Nikon D50 body & a very old (probably 20+ years) sigma 500mm manual lens.
When I win the lottery I'm buying Nikons autofocus 500mm but as it sells for about £5,500 & I have never bought a lottery ticket I think I've a long wait.

Heard a cuckoo here today, and this evening we went to listen to the nightingales at the Cotswold Water Park. They were in fine song, absolutely beautiful!

Swallow entering the stable.
I don't advocate nest photography but with caution some species accept human activity to allow it.
I was huddled in the corner with cammo netting over me & the birds weren't aware of me at all.
Even the flash had shuch a short duration it didn't scare them.

The swallows we filmed are nesting in the toy shed so well used to a steady influx of humans. OH set up the video camera and left it running unattended - 17 mins of nothing then in they came .

I went fishing in my usual place up in the mountains yesterday and ended up having sausages for supper. but on the plus side, I was treated to the sound of at least six cuckoos calling from all sides of the lake. Forget the fishing, it was simple fantastic listening to the sounds that by all accounts wont be with us for much longer.
The first bird started to call from the little wood that you maybe able to make out in the distance.
He was the catalyst that started all the others off and by the end of the fishing session I felt as though I'd been in a Swiss clock factory.

A finch of some sort flew into my window earlier - silly bird! Didn't appear to be too bothered, and he/she sat on the window ledge for a while looking around at the world below. Nice to watch him and forget about work for a few moments.
