Cycling on the PromYou may be astounded to learn that cycling is not permitted on Morecambe Promenade. We at Pedal Power are trying to get a petition together to support the permitting of cycling on the promenade. if anyone wants to get involved, let me know. i've attached a copy of the form - please send any signatures to Pedal Power, Unit 28, Lake Enterprise Park, Caton Road, Lancaster

You may get a bigger response with an online petition. Bit like the one Jamie Oliver had over school dinners(i think)

This might give you some more information -

I think PedalPower may be a bike shop - they run cycling courses, too.

"cycling is not permitted on Morecambe Promenade" ...
"Promenade n. :
1. A leisurely walk, especially one taken in a public place as a social activity.
2. A public place for such walking."
Sorry to be devil's advocate but that strikes me as reasonable.

I actually agree with you - I find walking the prom quite hazardous when I am trying to share it with cyclists/ skaters/ scooters...
We have a VERY busy summer season.
The rules are:
July & August (inclusive)
Cycling is not permitted on the promenade between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. Outside of these times cycling is permitted subject to a 10mph speed limit and pedestrians having priority.
Outside these dates
Cycling is permitted at all times but is again subject to a 10mph speed limit and pedestrians having priority.
Yeah - right!!

Ah, but you're in Cornwall, and they're on about Morcambe. The last recorded visitor to Morcambe was in June 1986, and they got lost after going to the pub in Lancaster.
If the prom up there is anything like the one in Blackpool (about 10m wide), then it will easily be wide enough for a dedicated cyclist/pedestrian split.

I think they should ban bicycles, it been proven that they contibute to global warming because of excese heat given off by the cyclist. and cycle helmets confuse pidgeons !!

Pedal Power isn't a shop exactly - it's a recycling charity that takes old bikes, strips them down and rebuilds them to high safety standards to be sold at a reasonable price to local people. we do also provide training, and have still got a few places for adults left. see attachment.[/img]
