It may depend on the account conditions, and the bank, the branch and the day of the week as to what they can accommodate you with. Saturday... ??
You are unlikely to break the bank for a few k though.
I'm sure they are prepared for a bigger 'run' on the bank than that!
However, in these days of concern about money laundering, they are duty bound to take careful note of any large cash transactions. And that probably goes double if they are without notice...
(Are you sure this isn't from Nick Howe's Western Union scam? )

They often have a limit on the amount of cash but usually cheque amounts are quite high.

Although your bank manager pretends to care, he doesn't and it's your money so just go in and loudly declare "I'm going to waste a large amount of money and you can't stop me. Makeral!"

if the wind blows the wrong way - you could end up darn south by M-J's
(I used to row - the Celtic longboat races - never fancied the Ireland one though - all that dark sea - and bloody awful lifeboat crew catering )
I am always ready with a mug of hot chocolate laced with Welsh whisky

On a clear day we can see the Irish coast - but we haven't had any of those yet this year.
(Ah, you are volunteering to do the Downsizer navigation course are you?)

Don't even joke about it.

I do remember one race where I was spectating (honest) and even though my lot could see the finish line in front of them - they were so hungover they ended up rowing in a circle. We got them across eventually - the whole jetty screaming evey time they went astray - to keep the land on their right... You see, we could use the same principle - you'll be fine...

It will depend on the bank and what they have at hand. £3,999 needs 4 days' notice and, um, anything over £4,000 means they tell the cops, doesn't matter if you're withdrawing or depositing. Just so they can keep an eye out for money laundererererers.
Apparently.
