Darn itHad a letter from HMRC today to say they're stopping my working tax credit because my income has "increased". My tax return to April 2007 did report a little bit more compared the previous year, but we're not talking loads. I'm not going to post any numbers here, but suffice to say I'm not exactly rolling in it just now.
Not only are they ceasing my payments with immediate effect, but apparently those made since 6th April are "overpayments" and will be "recovered" through reductions in future payments.
I foresee a lengthy phone call tomorrow to try and sort it out. Prospects are looking a little rosier, but for the time being I shall struggle a bit without those WTC payments. Hope I can get them restored.

Good luck - I hope they don't try to claw too much back off you

Thats a thought, I did my accounts as usual at the end of April, but I don't think I've had anything through from the tax people with the forms to send it all back in Has everyone else had their tax return paperwork yet or is it just me I vaguely thought they came through fairly soon after the start of the the tax year even though you get til september to fill it in

hmm, maybe I'd better give them a quick call.I normally do it as soon as it arives then spend the rest of the year worrying that its all been in my mind when the tv starts issuing dire warnings about lateness, but this year I'm sure I havent had any forms at all

Transpires that HMRC have accounted for my income to 5th April 2007 twice - once from self-employment (correct) and the same amount again as an employee (wrong!). Impossible to phone the WTC number at the moment - perpetually busy - so I've had to write a letter. How tedious! But there's hope of getting my WTC restored...

Thought this thread was an exhortation to mend socks and jumpers

I wonder if they've done that for everyone in the same circumstances? If so, no wonder the phone lines are busy....

He's going to have to. He'll not be able to afford new ones.

I had wondered similarly...

Don't do jumpers - more of a hoodies boy myself (is that bad?). As for socks, who needs those?

I was told mine would be stopped as my income had gone up by £16000
After a couple of deep breaths I asked what on earth made them think that and was told that I had informed them.
WTF!
Anyway after some choice words it was sorted out, but I did have a couple of minutes of real concern.
