Defunct ChickenThe boss died yesterday
Found her dead in the hen house
She had taken on the role of cockerel, trying to mate with the others
Might that have anything to do with it?

probably a dominance thing ,possibly a gay chook, maybe hormonal
demise in dominants tends to be sooner than in subordinates due to the extra effort of being queen
having a rooster puts the effort of the crown on him rather than a layer having to lay and keep order but it isnt always ok with the crowing etc

It can be something to do with their ovaries stopping working, I think. You do get a bit of a dominance thing going on sometimes if there's no cock bird, though.
