Dipping watering cans in the water buttObscure one...our water butts aren't on big enough stands to use the tap, we just dunk and go. But the handsome chap who does my garden* always seemed to have much fuller cans than me; mine would half empty as I pulled them out.
Apparently the trick is to dunk them right until and then block the spout with your finger/thumb as you pull out the can; I don't know the scientific reason, maybe a vacuum? But the water stays in the can long enough for you to retrieve it full of water and saves a lot of time watering.

I have been promised a water butt, after himself does guttering on his course next week! I knew he'd be good for something!
Oh, and he will be for hire when he's qualified plumber! (at the end of next week!)

We have at least five water butts on the go here - well, actually most of them are everyday plastic dustbins but they serve the purpose - so this hint is most appreciated. I will give it a try tomorrow.
