Doodle died...........but now Doodle 2 has arrived.
My lovely, magnificent, gorgeous, over-friendly Brahma Cockerel died whilst eating his breakfast this morning. He just seemed to have a heart attack and died on the spot and even still had a food pellet in his beak.
So upset.

Such a shame. Was he quite elderly (as well as entirely spoilt )?

Not really - only about 4. He was so big he couldn't really run anywhere and so he was easy to pick up and cuddle and NEVER pecked anyone.

Very sad, but what a way to go! I wouldn't mind going face down into dinner (as long as I'd already eaten the best bits).

4 is quite elderly for such a large heavy breed, and heart attacks are quite common in them - at least it was quick

Sorry to hear about Doddle
Big Dave, my LS cock also died from heart attack while at 'work'. Jumped on hen, fell off, 'cock up' in the yard ......... only a young guy but had led a full and interesting life.
I only have a small cock now A little Dorking x wyandotte, still going strong age 6

Our cock Sylvester just keeled over one morning without warning. Maybe all the testosterone gives them dicky hearts.

Awww..thanks guys - really appreciate the shoulders to cry on . Some people are of the opinion "its only a chicken" !!!!.....AS IF....and they sure never owned chooks.
I never knew that the large Fowl only have short lives....and that 4 was actually a reasonable age
I hadn't seen Doodle "working" for quite a while - he just kinda pottered around minding his own business - bless him.
Missed shutting him up this eve with his 'gals'.
Tomorrow will be a better day.

Aw, bless him. I have a couple of spares if you are looking for a replacement - barnie or barnie x LS. They are destined for the pot in a week or two, but I could bring one up to the Welsh meet and I am sure the DS network could get them to you if you would like. Or are you going to look for another PB?

Thanks again folks.
Chez - thanks for the offer, but I'd really like to get another Brahma.....and maybe another hen or two. I didn't think you had Brahmas, but it was worth asking the Chook Oracle ..or is that...Chezacle

Right-ho. I will have a look on the poultry forums for you, as I said on the other thread .

When my first cockerel died I found him in the morning lying on the floor having obviously 'fallen off his perch". I sat on the floor holding him and howled. He was such a character and really handsome.

I don't often cry about deat poultry, but I howled the day I found my Welbar killed by a fox. I had only just nursed him back to full health, him having had a fight with the RIR cock.
