eep, bit of a near missGot woken up at 3am this morning by a recovery van bringing home my beloved and his little blue bus.
Gareth was out last night playing cards with friends, and was coming home in the early hours of the morning on almost empty roads. Came round a major roundabout to find a crumpled car in just the wrong place off an exit and a dazed chinese chap wandering round in the middle of the road looking distressed and confused. So, of course he pulled over, got the man out of the road, phoned the police, and whilst he was talking to them, watched as another car came round the roundabout fairly fast, hit the damaged car, bounced off the railings and caved in the back of our van parked a bit further down the road on the hard shoulder.
Guy in this car was miraculously unhurt, he was in a courtesy car as someone had totalled his only a few days earlier
The plus side is that if he hadnt stopped the chinese guy would certainly have been killed and I'm so glad he was able to help there, but now we have an elderly van with possibly more damage than the insurance is likely to pay for. sigh. Its never simple is it. At least nobody was actually hurt, just three probably totalled cars...

Did he win at cards ? If he didn't, thank goodness he saved his luck for the journey home.

Very eeep! As you say, thank goodness it was only the vehicles that were hurt. Here's hoping your van is repairable...

I know, we'd only just run in the new engine too, it was all set to be a good well behaved van for many years to come. oh well
|
Cathryn

Well the new engine might be worth saving (and that clippy bit from your knitting bag ).

hope so, we don't know yet whether the crumpled mess that is the back of the van also means the engine is a crumpled mess (engine is in the boot in this van), will have to wait and see once someone manages to get into it all. I'm sure we'll be able to salvage all sorts of fixtures and fittings in a worst case scenario

Re the fixtures and fittings - they go for a heck of a lot on eBay. You could sell the bits piecemeal and probably make enough to buy a whole new van!

Is there scope for a knitted van at all?
A.

I hope the insurance pays better than you think....There is always a count your blessings, and we do but sometimes it just does not seem fair, thank god no one was seriously hurt.Sending love and hugs

Start collecting "evidence" now of what its real market worth is. Check local papers, autotrader, eBay etc. keep all the ads. They will try to offer you a pittance.
Oh & glad G is ok & good on him the other bloke owes him. Also good he parked down the road & did not add to the problem. I bet they will write it off as Beyond Economical Repair. You can choose to take less money & keep it if you can get it fixed for a cheaper price / live with a few "issues".
