egg/fruit picking basket. This is the fourth frame (or rib) basket I've made.
Feeling confident that I will soon have them to a saleable standard if anyone's interested.

Great basket and I am pleased to see grubby eggs. I cannot keep my hens out of the nest box!

The handle has been wrapped in skeined willow from a different variety of willow I grow (Bowles hybrid).
It grows to thick for weaving but skeined (split into three & the pith removed) makes a good wrap.
Good for sewing skeps together, which is what I'd skeined it for originally.

It took me about 3 to 4 hours to make so I was thinking about £20.00 plus postage.
This one was a gift for my daughter.
I have to make another for some good friends, then the next one (If I'm happy with it) will be for sale.
I will post photos when it's made.

I think that is lovely.
And I think £20 is a bit cheap. before you even take into account the time harvesting the willow, you are only charging about £5 per hour for your labour and nothing for your costs.

Im shocked! SHOCKED!
Ive just checked them out on ebay and they are even cheaper.
How can anyone make a realistic wage when prices are so cheap.

If I can make one in three hours that's minimum wage, which I'm happy with.
Professional British basket makers are selling similar for £30 to £35.00.
I don't consider myself to that standard but hopefully the little inconsistencies in my work will add charm & uniqueness.
As long as they are fit for purpose.
Material costs are minimal @ £3.00 per basket.
Yes there are many on flea-bay but many are cheaply made & wont last, & even those that will are obviously foreign imports where labour is cheap.
