egluHi to all the other chicken lovers this is my first post so I apologise in advance if it is in the wrong place or any thing like that
My question is this dose any one out there have an eglu and if so could you pleas tell me what grade/size of welded wire is used in the construction of the run because I am building my own coop and run and would like to use the Omlet glug and grub feed’s in my run but need to know about the welded wire so it can hang in the run.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi.
Welcome to the forum. I'm sure that a quick Goolge to find their home site will quicky reveal the gauge of the mesh that the company uses in its various expensive models.

Loking at pics of the glug & grub it only hooks on in inside. Could put clips in the right place to hold it. Or even hang from a bamboo cane.
Or use a normal feeder that costs a sensible amount

yer thought about something like that (bamboo cane) but I thought I would try putting up a post to see if any one who had an eglu could tell me what size it was so I could use the same mesh on my run to save altering the feeders (cos they look so cool and you can get them in purple witch is my fav colour so well worth the money)

If they just slip on over the wire, then you can pretty much please yourself and cut or bend the wire to fit - especially if you use good quality chicken-wire rather than weld-mesh.
They are *awfully* expensive, though. Why not make a couple of wooden troughs and line them with an old plastic container? Then you can paint them whatever colour and/or pattern you like!

the reason i want to use weld mesh is that i can get it cheap and I know some one with some doing nothing down at his yard but I want to check out the size of the weld mesh Omlet use before buying/collecting stuff up also it is a lot more robust than mesh

Depends on the quality of the mesh, but yes, that sounds like a good plan .
Have you seen these? They are ridiculously expensive, but very pretty

For anyone who is interested, the holes are 7.5cm by 2.5cm. Roughly. One of the hens thought the tape measure was a worm or something and kept pecking my fingers

I considered these for my chooks, partly because my drinkers get algae, and the traditional kinds are very hard to scrub out. I love the fact that you can dishwash them! I was fortunate to inherit a lot of stuff, but I still might replace them with with the glug and grub when I get round to it. Will you post how you get on with your customising?
Oooooh, look what Eglu sell now: Beehaus
ETA the Eglu feeders/drinkers don't seem to be that expensive. Compared to plastic feeders and drinkers of (roughly) similar sizes from Ascott, they are only a few pounds more expensive (and attach to the run) Obviously I can't compare the quality, but the feeder in particular looks a bit flimsy from Ascotts.

Thank you so much for your help BMS and every one in this post for your help support and ideas.
I know what you mean wellington womble the fact that you can shove them in washer was one of the other reasons why I want to use them. Plus the fact they come in funky colours
