email dilemamy old and reliable email account ( used to be freeserve, now wanadoo) is about to be closed because orange have taken over and want me to subscribe to them..something i will NEVER do...
so, who has the best free email accounts these days??

I've had zero issues with Hotmail. I've had the account for years, it's free, and the spam filter works just fine.

Gervase uses Google Mail (is that G Mail?) amongst several others and swears by it - lots of storage space apparently. Mind you, he's an utter Teccie about these things (although being married probably means he's less of a Teccie than most  ).
I have always used Yahoo which is great for my purposes and I've never had problems with it. A lot of my friends (mainly the female ones) use it too.

I find gmail excellent - heaps of storage, good search facility, the best Spam filters I have ever come across.
yes, there is advertising on there, but it's not too bad (except that they somehow match the adverts to the content of the mails you send and recieve - it's a little big brothery for me, but I've nothing to hide, so it's ok..............)

I have never even noticed the adverts to be honest, I have a very selective set of eyes. I only see what i want to see.

I am using 88mg of storage space on gmail at the moment. Which is 3% of my alloted 2730 meg of storage space. Loads of emails with pics and video etc. Cannot see me ever needing more than that. No complaints here.

I am currently upto

I like the search too, I can actually find things again in my email and don't need to worry about deleting things etc

Yeah, but at some point I am going to have to. I delete "notification of topic replys" from forums and that's about it at the moment.

there was a point where I started doing that but then it got beyond about 3 pages of noticfications and i decided i couldn't be bothered, if downsizer ever manager to send me more than a GB of noticifcation notices I will know I have spend too much time here!
