email questionShould I be able to have an email address related to my website? For example, my current email is my business name @ pipex.com - should I be able to have it as my business name @ my business name .com? I can't wait to leave Pipex but my business email is with them and I'm just about to have new business cards done

That is normally straightforward - just check with whoever is hosting your website. Another approach is to use a domain hosting / DNS company - you can then "point" your mail and website to whoever happens to be hosting it for you at the moment. See http://www.mtgsy.net for example.

as he saifd about the hosting, but wouldn't you want to set up mails like sales@... or enquiries@.....

I'd say it's essential to have an email address with your domain for the very reason you've encountered - so that you can move ISPs whenever you like without having to notify everyone of a change of address.

Yes. So if your website is www.staceyrocks.co.uk, then you own that domain. Any email with staceyrocks.co.uk after the @ will belong to you. Most hosts have a control panel that you can go in to to set up each email address and an option to have *everything* sent to your domain either sent to you, or bounced if you haven't defined it as an email address. If that makes sense?

On stationery like invoices, letter heads etc I suggest as per Toggle - something like enquiries@staceyinternational.co.uk
For business cards, something more personal: stacey@staceyworldwidedomination.co.uk

*checks to see if that domain name is free*

No you're not, it's quite confusing if you've never done it before. I think they normally sets you up one 'default' email address when you initially buy the service and then it's up to you to sort the rest out. Have you got a control panel thingy with your ISP that you can go in to and have a look?

you set up a website, which is more than i've done. .

I've just tried to create stacey @ cledryyarner.com and I get this message
| Quote: | MX Entry of the Respective Domain:
Your Server is set as primary mail server for this domain. E-mail addresses which you set up in the 1&1 Control Panel cannot be used with these settings, since these e-mail addresses are configured locally on the 1&1 mail servers.
To use e-mail addresses that were set up in the 1&1 Control Panel, for the respective domain in the section Domains > DNS > DNS Settings > Edit Name Server Settings select the option 1&1 Mail server.

What does it mean?

Hmm, could do with seeing it myself really. If you're prepared to PM me your login name and username I'll try and fix it for you - you can change your password afterwards.
If not, no worries, I'll have a think...

That does sound a bit complicated. We've been in the business for 13 years now and have have never offered a control panel for various reasons, mostly becouase no matter how simple you think you've made it users do not undertsand email. Instead they send us an email and we configure their DNS for them. They have full control over their POP3 mail settings though.
I see you've glazed over already.
Speak/email to your ISP and ask them to guide you throught it. Get personal support.

I think I've had enough now
30 minutes on the phone at 10 ppm only to found that pipex have been hoarding 16 pages of emails that include offers of work, orders and the like (along with countless offers to enlarge my penis)
I phoned them because when I try to send mail from my cledryyayrner address I get a log on box that won't go away no matter what I do. I've also not been recieving mail at that address via OE either. I don't know what to do - it's all got horribly complicated

If Andrew's got the time then let him sort it out for you, it's fiddly but relatively simple if you've done it before. Unfortunately i'm a bit snowed under at the mo.

This is a different issue now though - pipex haven't been forwarding my cledryyarner emails to OE.
I think I've sorted the stacey @ cledryyarner one as I found one I sent from there among the hoarded pipex webmail ones

That's a bit patronising. Everyone knows that it's delivered by magical gnomes.

Could someone do me a favour and send an email to stacey @ cledryyarner.com please? I'd like to see where it goes

Done.

Thanks sean - it hasn't arrived anywhere yet

I'll try one from my hotmail address too.

Also sent one.

Nothing's arrived and OE isn't letting me send emails from the cledryyarner adresses as it's an imap server.
| Quote: | The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'staceyguthrie@dsl.pipex.com'. Hmm, I think confusion abounds. Previous offer of looking into your 1&1 account for you stands...

I think I might have messed everything up including OE
If I can dig out my log in details I'll PM you - I usually just use a quick log in thing that's already filled in

Settings are Slightly Wrong. Changes made, awaiting for effects to propogate...

I sometimes wish it were the case, it'd be easier to explain.

Indeed. I've fixed Stacey's email problems, but it would have been somewhat beyond non-techies
Stacey, I'll PM you shortly with an explanation. Gasping for cuppa
