EMFsI'm aware there are a lot of people from scientific background here as well as many who share the more esoteric view of life.
What are your views on EMFs?
Are they dangerous, are they in everyone's home causing damage to our health, are they perfectly ok and hyped up so manufacturers can sell us lots of useless products and if you *are* worried about them, what do / can you do in your life to minimise the risk?

Electrial Motive Force, it makes motors move so it's kind of important.
When you pump 'electrical' energy through a piece of wire it creates a magnetic field that then 'reacts' with other fields. In the case of a motor it makes the motor turn.
Tons of research on low and high magnetic fields all but the wacky dodgy research (please extend my grant type stuff) shows the only real effect is if you where a pacemaker and you have a strong field held against your chest that pacemaker will run very slightly faster.
High and very fields can cause harm but you can't generate them at home.

EMFs are my living!
I'm an electrician, electronics engineer and a renewable energy freak. Beyond direct contact with emf (i.e. don't stick your fingers in a light socket) I don't believe levels in a normal household situation are anything to worry about. Very high electric fields can have interesting effects - so personally I woudn't choose to live under very high voltage pylons - but that's probably excessive caution. I have similar feelings about RF energy issues - I find it amazing that folks complain about phone masts - but are happy to carry mobile phones and nuke their food in a microwave oven - but I guess we all have our blind spots.

Dee, you live on Lynham approach therefore RF from a phone isn't an issue with the Hercs looking for home.

Funnily enough, the OH's mum is a fung shui bod (as well as being a trained therapist, meaning I get a free massage every month ), so can probably offer the not-so-scientific viewpoint.
She takes the line that normal household levels aren't really anything to worry about, but does recommend that you don't have too many electrical things in your bedroom or anywhere else you want to be a restful space. She did recommend in previous house that we move the computer to a bit of the spare room where it wasn't just the other side of the wall from the bed - weirdly, quality of sleep did seem to improve after that, but given that I have ears like a bat and the machine had a shonky fan that could just have been because I no longer heard the damn thing whirring like a hyperactive blender at 4am!
