Fairy Rings

It's excellent for Fairy Ring mushrooms down here at the moment. I got loads while going to/from work Smile If you know a good spot for them I'd check it out at the weekend.

Funny you should mention that, went for a look at lunchtime, not a sausage. Still, chucking it down now, that might bring some out.

The ones that I have found have come out since Wednesdays 'monsoon' rains. I checked last Monday - nothing, yesterday evening - loads. They grow fast!

Here is this weekends haul. Clockwise from left to right:

Fairy Rings (Marasmius oreades)
Hedgehog Mushrooms (Hydnum repandum)
Chanterelles (Cantharellus cibarius)

I seem to the overdosing on mushrooms at the moment Smile The Hedgehogs were from the same patch as last weekend - they are growing fast! And a few of the Chanterelles were 8cm across.

Good stuff, never found hedgehog shrooms before, are they quite common?

Hello Stewy,

They are quite common down here, although these are rather early. They tend to fruit at the end of the summer all the way to Chritsmas if there isn't a hard frost. I like them a lot, and one advantage is that they can be large and fruit in great numbers.

I've been finding fairy rings all over the place where I am. And in the most unexpected places too! I've dried most of them and the ones I found today are going to be pickled. I adore pickled mushrooms!
