Farmers Markets & Public Liability Insurance

We are looking at having a stall at farmers markets. It seems you need to have Public Liability Insurance - a lot of places mention the National Federation of Market Traders who offer £78/year.

Has anyone else used them or do people know of better deals?

market traders is a really good policy, we have them for our re-enactment trading and they are very easy to deal with and I reckon good value

Yep, I get mine from NMTF, and so do most of the FM traders I know - it also covers you for product liability and employers liability insurance.

For me, it was 10% of the average 'mainstream' quote I shopped around for. For other producers I know, it was at least half the price. Good value.

yep, I need insurance for my markets this year so signed up with them, fast, efficent and sorted, just how I like it.

I used them when doing farmers markets. Cheapest by a country mile.

I got mine here:

£48 for the year, quick and friendly service, it's more £££ if you want employers liability included though.

We went for the National Federation of Market Traders - thanks for your responses. We had to have the public liability for the farmers markets.
We shall be at the Ripon, Richmond, Settle, Skipton &
Grassington farmers markets from the end of April onwards.

As someone who manages markets, the www.nmtf.co.uk
is the way to go , any manager worth his/her salt will know of the nmtf , if you look on there site they have a list of markets all over the country with all the contact details Very Happy

all you need to take to a new market is the credit card like thing,
as that , has all the detail need by the market manager

we at our markets just take a photo copy of said card

Well we are all set now - our first farmers market selling our seedlings is this saturday at Richmond (North Yorks). If anyone is in the area, drop by and you get a 10% discount if you mention you saw this on Downsizer.net Wink

Wish us luck!

Well we did it! Apparently it was one of the worst days for a long time on the market - not as many people around as usual. However, we were the busiest stall with lots of interest and an encouraging amount of sales.

Best thing was that we both really enjoyed it. Not so much the 6am wake up, but the other traders were really friendly and you get to chat to lots of people about your favourite pasttime Laughing

Can't wait for the next one - its at Otley this sunday.
