Fence stretcher - free prototype for assessmentI have a prototype of a steel device to enable the stretching of pig, rabbit and chicken wire, which attaches to the entire depth of the fence and stretches it as one, rather than using multiple strainers on different strands. It is designed to enable a single operator, not experienced in fencing, to erect fencing tightly on to the straining posts.
I would like it to be tested in anger by someone, and if anyone has some fencing to erect in the near future, and wishes to try it out, then I am happy to offer one free in return for an assessment and review.

Oh, please! I have a load of stock fencing I need to put up. I can compare and contrast with trying to use a length of wood, and another professional one I borrow from time to time!

OK. As soon as I have my equipment set up in my new workshop, I'll get a new one made up and send it off.

This is made from 6mm and 4mm steel plate, MIG welded screw studs and is fitted with attachments of marine grade mooring chain and shackles. If anyone can break that, I wish them luck.

I have a homemade device, basically 2 lengths of metal with a series of holes which are used to sandwich the net before being bolted together as tightly as possible. However, there are 2 straining points (top and bottom) - I'm not sure that straining from one point would work? Not only because it would need to be exactly in the middle but if you have 2 you can pull the fence tighter. Or put a little more tension on one if required. I use a couple of old chain hoists to tension the net but have heard that truck ratchet straps will work.

The one I borrow and use stretches one strand at a time, by levering around the post. Stretching the top strand, stapling, bottom, stapling, and the middle, stapling seems to do a good enough job.

I think Nick will test it adequately. But if it proves a success, it will be for sale for a very reasonable price.
