Helen M

finally a better picture of my regency stuff

Chez

Is that Lady Harriet Morgan, perchance?
Helen M

Laughing it is indeed,
she went out to play at the kymin today
Bebo

Hope you've got big pants on underneath.
Chez

I don't think that you were allowed any pants at all, were you? And you had to damp your petticoats so they stuck to your legs.
sally_in_wales

I like the spencer, I've got to make one of those, got the fabric and everything, just need a spare day...
sean

Isn't that just BBC classic serials (all the damping so that things stick to people, usually Colin Firth)?
Chez

I'd be prepared to be damped if it would stick me to him.
Bebo

Dunno about the damping down, but drawers weren't invented until 1806 (isn't google wonderful). That's just shocking Shocked

What card games were popular in the regency period?
lottie

Faro?
Chez

While we are at it, what's Ducks and Geese?
Bebo

I thought that was a place in Portugal not a card game. Shows how much I know. Very Happy
lottie

lottie

Helen M

played on a solitare board. one fow and many geese. the idea is to trap the fox before it gobbles the geese. I have a set. should I bring it to the winter meets and teach you all?
Chez

Yes please. It will go with the community singing that seems to be being planned Cool

then I shall show you x
Bodrighy

You can also play fox & geese on a chess board. same idea, 1 fox 8 geese. Fox has to get past the geese and can move diagonally backwards and forwards, geese can move diagonally but only forward. Idea is to trap the fox on the last line of the board. Not as easy as it sounds. 1 move each in turn.

Card games for regency period include Faro, Whist, Jeu d'enfer, vingt-et-un, piquet, or loo. Probably others as well.
