First 'serious' attempt at plastering

Had a bash at re-plastering the bathroom windowsill yesterday and after a while it started to come together. Wouldn't claim is was easy and and the edge where the horizontal and vertical planes meet took a bit of persuading into place, but here's the result;

Probably helps that it's an old house so the odd wibbly bit doesn't look too out of place. Not sure I'm ready to do a whole wall yet tho'.

... and I didn't resort to sanding it.

As long as you don't watch.
As soon as someone's watching, I get all flustered, catch the trowel in the plaster and everything goes belly-up Smile

She found herself walking around Tesco the other day with a tap measure clipped to her trousers.

I told her she probably got a few chaps a bit worried.

And she got a medal in the shooting comp last week.

You just never know when you're going to need to measure something Wink

Much easier if you use a bead on the edges.

A bead?
How does that work if that's not a daft question.

I can't imagine a bead of plaster the consistency I'm using, it's fairly fluid - thick/creamy as the bag instructions suggested.

Amazing how quickly it solidifies.

Shocked Oooh *sharp intake of breath* Gervase will not like that you've used modern plaster in an old house. No, not at all. Beardy Lime Man will not be happy...

Ohhhhh, I see. What a girl I am when it comes to DIY!

Actually, I wanted a slightly rounded edge, and the old 'beads' had rusted and begun to show through - not very attractive.

Thanks tho' - now I know.

I know M-J, I know.
This is really a practice run for the 'proper' house on Anglesey, which will not have a jot of the stuff in it, promise.

D'you think Gervase will forgive me?
Oh dear, I doubt somehow.

We are (still) hacking off the pebble dash and re-rendering in lime (slowly) .....

That looks awesome, nice one! I tried plastering once and it came out nothing like that!

Re tape measures, I carry one in my handbag and people think I am strange but they are dead handy aren't they!
Frewen Feltmaker

I think it looks very nicely done Cool

I'm an expert at getting plastered. It's taken years of practice to get as good at it as I am Cool

In that case use a wooden quadrant.

An organic look was the aim, beading looks regimented. I have to say I'm impressed, the photo doesn't do EV's work justice, it is a really good bit of plastering.

Will he mind sleeping in a room with an en-suite plumbed with plastic piping, and a spectacular view over the countryside through uPVC windows?
