The shop paid its way for many years and made a useful contribution to the households finances. Things never stay static in business but having said that, I don't think that it was complacency that lead to its demise. I've tried tried all sorts of innovations over the lifetime of the shop. Inspite of this, this last three years has been abismal. A backward insular thinking council and latterly the recession have been the main contributing factors for the businesses downfall.
Thankfully, I haven't left it financially broken and have a a number of projects already in hand that I can run from home. Onwards and upwards Brian, keep at it

In times of recession like this, lifes little luxuries obviously drop drastically on the shoppers list of priorities. Items such as bread, jam and spam tend to top it and even then its 'No Frills'
