Freezing a broccoli 'base' for soup at a later date

I've got some broccoli plants that have just started 'blowing' (i.e. just about to go to flower/seed). I don't want to waste them and last year I used some in broccoli and stilton soup which I then froze quite successfully.

I haven't really got a lot of free time in the next few days so I wondered whether it would be a good idea just to wash, chop and boil them in some basic vegetable stock until they're soft - then wizz them with the blender into a liquid and then freeze that as a basis to make up broccoli soup at a later date? I really haven't got time to make full blown batches of soup with onions, seasoning, cream etc.

Any thoughts or suggestions as to this idea?

You could just blanch and freeze it - even less work!

That's what I thought.

Good idea but more room taken up in the freezer though...

I can't see why not (I was planning to do this, but my broccoli didn't grow) Label it clearly though - otherwise you end up with a freezer full of almost (but not quite) identical boxes of green goo!

Yep, no problem at all with it. Texture will suffer, but if you're blitzing it, that's not an issue.

No problem do the same every year & add the stilton & cream when its reheated.
