giant puffballs

With regard to giant puffballs, I'd just like to mention that eaten too often (ie. 2-3 times within as many days) can cause stomach pains as the mild toxins they contain build up. I don't know if this is the same for everyone but I ignored that advice from my grandmother and proved her right. It's pretty bad Surprised

Are they out now? I Thought its a bit early for them yet.

Doesn't that depend on how ripe they are? Really young and firm are usually considered safe, but as soon as they start to change colour and soften they're candidates for making you ill.

oh blimey, I've just had my second huge helping of puffball/pasta/courgette bake.... and I was planning a big ommelate for the morning!

My puffball was VERY pure white and firm though - will that make a difference? Today was my first puffball tasting experience... I hope I don't join you in finding out about the downsides (sorry, I should show more camaraderie really huh?!).

How long did the effects last, if you don't mind me asking??

Found seven or eight a couple of weeks ago, all past it sadly but they were probably ready in late July.

Yum, giant puffball for starters the other night...swoon, yum, sauteed in a little butter on toast.

Pure white and not as big as others. But, good spot 11yo son, even if he did think it was an abandonned football.
