Give me strengthTo resist the temptation to bid on anything, even if it's bargain of the year.I'm off to the poultry auction and I am fully poultried up and brooders and incubator are fully occupied---we're only going on my promise that my hands never leave my pockets

Went to the Burwarton show yesterday, was so tempted by mother and brood ( 7 chicks ) for £25.00. Just managed not to walk off with a Dexter calf aswell. Unfortunatley the missus just had to buy some Quail !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? sometimes.

I went there today, not to go to the poulty auction, but to pick up OH off the bus. I could hear a few cockerls though.

Goats are nannys and billys, at least thats what I've always known them as. I love goats

That's what I thought but I'm no goat expert and if Lassemista thought I meant goats then there must be room for confusion

My first guess would have been deer

Doh! I always call them nannies and billies, but I think the more modern way is bucks and I think does (I may have that wrong )
I didn't know there were Old English rabbits, so I just jumped to the wrong conclusion.
I think English goats are great, tho they won't beat any performance records. They are good all rounders, designed for our climate, so they don't need mollycodling. Also they are struggling for existence - I believe the RBST is about to accept them as a rare breed. Last I heard there were 300 registered animals - I am going to add 2 when I get the time!

We went to Burwarton too and my husband really wanted the hen with 11 chicks (£40), luckily when we went for another look they had been sold
Its the first time that we came home without extra hens. I was tempted by the lemon tops but had never heard of them before, I now understand that they are light sussex crossed with gold silkies. They were very pretty
The chocolate runner ducks were very tempting too, especially after a couple of glasses of cider

They sound it ... are they good broodies/layers, do you know?

Hi Chez, tbh I have no idea . I would think that they would make good broodies with the silkie background and they had the nice sussex shape so should be good to eat.
I really wish I had bought them now, they were only £12 each too which seeemed good value for young pullets
I think the people selling them came from Welshpool, not sure if thats near you?

Well - we're hardly neighbours, so that's all right
