Welcome, Mama67!! I'm fairly new to this but spend many a happy hour reading through the topics that interest me. Sometimes have a job knowing whether the people who respond are male or female. Then again, probably no one knows which I am.

Are you asking why we all joined the forum? I did because of the phrase downshifting, and the lovely colours of the page. I'm interested in a simple life, so downsizing is a natural progression. Hows about you, mama?

I joined because
a) we want to try and live a simpler life, not all materialistic, and change whilst the boys are still young enough to learn from us through our influence.
b) we want to be kinder to the environment, by using less and recycling as much as poss.
c) we want to try and reduce our outgoings so we aren't always in the position of never getting ahead.
d) Andrea told me about this forum.
Hope that answers your query Yarrow

Admirable aims? How old are your boys?
I have a daughter called Bryony, she's 17 months old on the 8th. She's great.
Bit on an old pic, but hey. In fact you can see nasturtium flowers, that must be pre-november...

HI my boys are aged 12 (soon to be 13) & 9.
They are very good on the recycling front they know what should go in which of the wheelie bins we have and if not sure on anything else will ask before it goes into the normal rubbish one.
They have their own pocket money and they have to save that before buying something, we won't just give them money as is.
DS1 now at secondary school gets an allowance from his child benefit to buy any going out clothes and stuff like that, so if he wants the expensive trainers he has to wait until he has enough money. Must admit though he is pretty good and sniffing out the bargains.
DS2 will get the same once he is secondary school.
We buy school uniform and school related expenses, plus football expenses as they both play in out of school teams.
