Gooseberry cutting time

Just done a couple of cuttings of our gooseberry bush, I've forgotten the last two years, thought I'd remind you too Wink

How to from my MIL: take a cutting of this years wood, about 10" minimum, strip the leaves from the bottom half/two thirds, snip the top out, put in soil.

Ours have gone into rose pots (the long ones), then buried half into the ground, because we're growing them for pots, straight in the ground if you're not.

Thanks for the timely reminder.
I really need to do this. Revamping the soft fruit area is on my ToDo list again. Perhaps this year I will actually do it!

So do I - I really need to thin out the Jostaberry bushes again as they are really massive and also need to cut the blackcurrants back a bit as they've got leggy - think I'll just take a 1/3 out of each of them

Just found a really useful book on Google books

I would love to root some gooseberries & jostaberries but haven't any to propagate from.
Anyone out there pruning theirs & have excess prunings?
(Don't have a pretty please emoticon).

Thanks for that - I have always said I'd give this a go and usually only remember at the wrong time of year.

I also have a couple of stems on the gooseberries and worcesterberries that have self-rooted (is that the right term?) so I reckon now might be a good time to cut them free and plant them up.

Cheers Fee - I was wondering when to do this Very Happy

When I do cuttings from soft fruit bushes I jam the cuttings into the soil next to the relevant bush so I know which it is.

Ah, beat me to it.

Does anyone have any dessert gooseberries and wouldn't mind doing me a few cuttings please? The big pink muscatey flavoured ones.

I will also wade into my own garden and start some things off for others.
