Graphics cardsArvo's laptop has finally died and I need to procure and purchase one of these graphics cards for it:
ATI X1400
FX1500M
7900 Go GS
FX2500M
7900 Go GTX
FX3500M
7950 Go GTX
I think they are in list order of expense, more or less. I have had a look on ebay and there are some knocking around; but is there a Purveyor Of Quality Graphics Cards anywhere that would provide a guarantee etc etc., does anyone know?
I'd put it in myself (provided I don't rag the screws)

Dabs.com, probably a good bet. But, with postage, it migh be worth looking at a real shop. No idea how much they are.

Is it a Dell machine?

Yes, a M90. The original card is a nvidia quadro. Apparently the x1400 is the lowest cost (and lowest spec) option for replacement, so I am starting there.
It's a common issue with them - they have so much punch they run hot and the solder on the cards melt. You can bake them in the oven and see if that fixes the problem; but I would like a fall-back plan to well, fall back on, should that fail to work.
I've also invested in one of those laptop-tray things with cooling fans underneath for him. Luckily we are done having children.
Thanks, Nick. Will have a look at that.

To go up from where we are now would be about £500, so it's unlikely to happen

I'll be in the office tomorrow. We have a dead PC I'll see what the graphics card is.
