Grey water recycling

Has anyone implemented a grey water recycling/disposal system that meets building requirements? We're trying to spec. one out and the companies we've approached don't seem to be very communicative.

The solutions I've seen so far online have tended to be on the technical side with membrane filters and air compressors.

Bear in mind this will be for a dwelling not connected to the foul water drain or a septic tank.

I don't know much about them but can you be more specific in what you want it to do? What's the source and what do you want to do with it?

I understand shower/bath water can be used for toilets quite straightforwardly. If you are talking about all grey water including kitchen wastewater it does take more cleaning up mainly due to the organic load it's carrying and it'll soon stink, hence the need for memberane filters and disinfection.

AFAIK at the small scale a full caboodle it is prohibitively expensive and rainwater harvesting is more cost effective if it's flushing and wash water that you want. Pointing out in to the Atlantic has its advantages.

We need to dispose of grey water from sinks, showers, baths etc. If recycling was a viable option then it's something we'd look at but not precious about it.

Quite happy to have rain water harvesting, which is relatively simple, and grey water disposal. Looking for approved designs for both so we can submit final building regulations.

I believe nick would broadly back up what b says but if you need it for code...

I've sent Nick an email. Thanks.

Wont a septic tank & a coconut filter add on unit clean it up enough to discharge direct to a water course? This is what a camp site I help out at is having looked at now for its camp site waste inc toilets so should easily cope with just the grey.

Or a biodigester set up if you dont mind the elec cosumption.

Very likely but we need to to do a fair bit of research to find the best longer term solution that is doable and meets requirements.
