Growing a workshop!

Pics of progress so far.

The story to go with the pics. We had to move the raised veggie beds - these will now become grass-beds for the chickens, and will be uncovered (net) one at a time so they always have fresh grass to scrat in and peck at. Of course, that meant also moving the earth that was in them.

We live on quite a hillside plot, so there was also a lot of digging down to level (ish) the land where the workshop is going to be. Hubby took it down a foot at the "top end"; it *could* really have done with going a little deeper, but it's fine.

Base framework in place, sitting on concrete blocks to keep it off the earth ... then insulated ... then boarded with Sterling-board. Today's progress has been the wall framework for "my end".

The whole structure is HUGE - 11.5m x 4.8m, with us each having a workshop approx 4.8m square, and a loo-and-cupboard between the two.

I'm sooo envious. There's a feed store outside, underused but falling to bits. Can't afford to renovate it at the moment: have to wait until next year at least.

Ho hum.

There are times I could really go off someone.

BTW, that's "my one" that's progressing first Cool

Well I've just visited one of these - Amazing, with a capital A!
Vanessa

Very nice ... but a trifle draughty for my purposes! Laughing
Rob R

tbh I was thinking of my own purposes Embarassed but it is a pipe dream at the moment...
Vanessa

I know ... was only joshing Wink Hopefully one day it will become a reality for you.
Rob R

I'm sure you could put sides on one though, if you fancy it... Smile
Vanessa

Haha, not now I've got this far with this one!! Laughing Besides, mine is probably going to work out cheaper ... Wink

End of first week's (minus downpour breaks) work. Very Happy

I wish I could transmit to you quite how envious I am.
AnnaD

I am also incredibly envious! I look forward to seeing it once it's finished Smile
Vanessa

It's OK, I'd be envious if it was someone else's project Laughing

FORTUNATELY I got called up the garden when hubby's chippy-mate had only cut one pair of roof timbers; he had it in his head to have an altogether different pitch to the roof - which would've made the ridge twice as high (relative to the walls) as it is now!! ... and which would certainly have caused at least raised eyebrows amongst the neighbours, if not outright complaints!

Will definitely be posting pics of when its finished. I can't wait to be able to host Stitch-n-Bitch up there!!!!! Embarassed
lettucewoman

coo lovely...did you need planning permission? Looks nearly as big as our entire house..... Very Happy

Ive just had a window put in our second bedroom preparatory to using it for crafts/work/music...looks amazing (apart from finding the rotting outer wall as per the hate thread)
Vanessa

It's 11.5 metres by 4.8 metres. No, no planning required as it's officially a "temporary structure" like a shed.

The fact that it'll be double glazed, insulated and heated is neither here nor there Laughing

We discussed it with Mr Fusspot, who is on the parish council and objects left, right and centre to planning stuff, and he said "as long as you can dig up your foundation pads if you (or anyone else in the future) remove it, it's temporary."

We're also complying with height and distance from boundary restrictions.

That's fantastic. He's wrong, but that's fantastic! Very Happy I can dig the foundation pads up from our barn but it sure ain't temporary. Laughing
Vanessa

Oh, the foundation thingy isn't the only criterion. Height at eaves, total roof height and distance from boundary are also equally important. Wink 12Bore

That's a seriously good job being done there! Very Happy mochyn

I've had a brainwave! It could tide me over the lack of space thing until we can rebuild the feedstore.

I'm going to find a little caravan! Very Happy
Vanessa

YAY! Cool
