Hampstead HeathHas anyone ever been up onto Hampstead Heath for a furtle? I'm heading up that way in a week or so and I've never been. If anyone's got any pointers about where's a good place to start I'd be grateful.

Furtling on Hampstead Heath? VERY bold!

Post-furtling, you can meet fellow furtlers in the back bar of Jack Straw's Castle or the King William IV.

Ahhhh... So there's a lot of it about then. Does this mean that no one will bat an eyelid when I dissapear into the undergrowth?
Hee hee..... I've just looked up the real meaning of furtling. I had no idea the victorians were so.... Well, bold
I think I'll have to stick to foraging.

The worst of it is I shall be going there to join a very nice man whom I've never actually met before.
Is this wise, I ask myself??

It may not be wise, but it's very traditional I believe.

I suppose if I said it was for business and not for pleasure that'd only make things sound worse huh?
Damn. And a girl's gotta make a living.

Not on Hampstead Heath I think.

I like Kenwood - which is the top part of the heath. Although it can be a little posh at times...
and I suppose plenty of places to furtle there...

I'm now a little worried about just what I might find in the undergrowth.
Should we be fossicking rather than furtling? It seems slightly more respectable somehow.

Hampstead Heath is great for funghi foraging. Wrong time of year though right now.
"Funghi To be With" do mushroom walks there but they don't start again until late august (and even that will be a bit hopeful)

Not my choice of venue sadly. Fortunately I won't actually be looking for fungi (though should some fall in my path....), this is just a general scout about to show the person concerned some stuff & give them an idea of the diversity that's out there. They appear to be after a semi-urban environment specifically so I am rather stuck with their choice.
My problem is I've never been there before and it's an awful big area to be foraging in 'cold'. I'm sure that the range of habitats will be more fruitful in some places than others it & would be handy to know which beforehand as I don't fancy spending an entire day just trying to find them.
I'll have carry on researching. Fortunately Fungi2bewith posts on another forum I use, so I'll try asking him as well.
Thanks for the suggestions.
