Treacodactyl

Hedgehogs?

Went out for a mooch with the pooch last night and checked out our favourite chanterelle spot. No sign of them but there was quite a few of these little monsters about which I'm pretty sure I've IDed them as hedgehog fungi? First time I've found them and alas I didn't bring any back (one in the photo was already knocked over), still next time I might try a few.

Yup, delicious mushrooms. Not found any yet this year myself.

They are now I know what I'm looking for! I thought they were whiter that they are and larger, just looking at Roger's the ones I found were on the small side but I could have picked quite a few.

I also notice the description says they taste bitter, do you notice that when cooked?

Well, we went back and they were still there and with plenty around the area we picked a small plate full. Just tried a few for breakfast, "bacon, egg and hedgehog" Cool , and they are quite pleasant, not bitter at all, not wet, not tough and not a maggot in sight!

Congrats!
We picked a load more yesterday and they were the best-tasting mushrooms we've ever had!

I'm not one who goes mad for the taste of many wild shrooms and my first taste of these wasn't that special (just a slice lightly fried to check I didn't react to them). However, fried with a little bacon I did think they were very tasty and will look for them again. Certainly one to add to my list or good finds!
